***** THERE IS A MOVEMENT FOR VETERANS TO SALUTE THE FLAG RATHER THAN PLACING THEIR HAND OVER THEIR HEARTS WHEN HONORING THE FLAG, FALLEN COMRADES, AND/OR THE COUNTRY (E.G. WHEN THE NATIONAL COLORS PASS OR ARE PRESENTED, WHEN THE NATIONAL ANTHEM OR HONORS ARE PLAYED, ORE WHEN TAPS ARE PLAYED AND FIRING SQUAD OR GUNS RENDER HONORS). THIS IS A MATTER OF CHOICE - WE HAVE EARNED THE RIGHT TO RENDER A SALUTE! PLEASE PASS TO OTHERS. THANK YOU RET. ARMY MG LEWIS. *****
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "'The United States of America", for an amount "up to, and including my life". That is honor, and there are way to many people in this country who no longer understand it. Author unknown
Do not think that you are forgotten. One of our biggest supporters is former Miss America, Heather French Henry, who travels the nation bringing attention to veterans' issues. She said "We must continue to honor those who fell by servicing those who live". Please visit her website at www.heathersveterans.org for more information about her foundation that addresses veterans' Homelessness, Health Care, Education, Legislation, Benefits.
"I contend that American Warriors are the ultimate lovers of peace. They are lovers of peace even more so than the citizen exercising their first amendment constitutional right on the capital grounds demanding peace now. I contend that American Warriors are the ultimate lovers of peace, because when they volunteer or volunteered, they take a vow on their life to ensure the peace. They vow to insure the peace for you and me. May we ALWAYS have such lovers of peace." USCG Lt. CDR Gerald Nauert, from his 2007 Memorial Day speech in LaGrange, KY
"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation." George Washington
Louisville Alderman Hal Heiner recently said at a ceremony for the traveling Vietnam Wall (the Wall that heals) "Every day we work to move our civilization to the point when peaceful solutions are invoked in the place of armed conflict. Even when we reach that ultimate goal, this Memorial, and other such remembrances, will serve as reminders of the sacrifices made to get us to that point. It will ensure that these chapters in our nation’s history are not forgotten, and that the struggle to live in a peaceful, free world did not come without heavy sacrifice."
It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion. It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble. It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the VETERAN, not the politician, who has given us the right to vote. It is the VETERAN, who salutes the Flag. It is the VETERAN, who serves under the Flag. ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM. Author unknown

"America is not what is wrong with the world – it’s a symbol for what the world does right, from defense of freedom to rebuilding of nations that have suffered. All veterans have played a part in this noble tradition. We have kept our nation safe, we have kept our nation free, we have aided more people worldwide than any other nation could ever dream of doing, and we’ve preserved our way of life for generations." From Veterans Day speech given by Kentucky Air National Guard COL Steven Bullard
"To be a veteran is to be part of a special fraternity. We’ve been through basic training, we’ve worn the uniform, we’ve proven our willingness to sacrifice, and if need be, to lay down our life, for our nation and freedom. To be a veteran is to wear a badge of courage." From the same Veterans Day speech given by Kentucky Air National Guard COL Steven Bullard
"Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged." President Abraham Lincoln
"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." John Stuart Mill
